The History

Profection Fresh CC, trading as Simply Garlic, was established in 2008. It was started when Freshmark (a division of Shoprite/Checkers) decided to privatise their in-house garlic processing operation. An old farmhouse was converted on the farm Boekenhoutskloof in the Cullinan district in Mpumulanga, to house the operation. Initially the business belonged to Jaco Marais and Gerard van der Laarse. The partnership was dissolved when the company moved to its current site in 2011 at Dewar Street, Derdepoort, Pretoria. Jaco Marais sold his shares to Gerard van der Laarse (who also studied Horticulture and Food Science at the University of Pretoria). He previously ran the company QC Fresh, which then focused on food safety training, inspections and auditing against the GLOBALGAP, HACCP and GMP standards.

Simply Garlic is an owner-managed company that has adopted a dynamic, hands-on approach which we believe will enable us to meet your demands and that ultimately means that you, our valued client, will receive that personal service and quality products that you expect.
